Time to reflect and share with colleagues

  • A great day of learning new tools and tips to help with workflow.  Definitely out of my comfort zone at times in that it was lots of information to retain.  Technical issues were a little hindering however all good in the end.  Thanks to Kelsey and Tanya for your time and patience.  Today I have come away with extra knowledge about how to use gmail, google keep, hangout etc.
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? (principle/policy & method of teaching)
  • Learn: Listening to Lenva via Hangout and Google Slide show about Manaiakalani Pedagogy. Some of the slides I had heard before in a Staff Meeting session with Mark Madden, which help cement the 'Learn, Create, Share' pedagogy.
  • Create: Creation of a Group Hangout - interesting in that I again had the microphone issue. Keen to have another go to cement this knowledge.
  • Share: Last session was good to share what we had learned and to go over the content of the day.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
  • To keep having a go
  • Ask questions if not sure
  • Downloading Google Keep APP - This definitely is a tool that would improve job lists and not having lists everywhere. Great that it connects with IPhone.
  • How I can use Hangout as a tool in a junior classroom.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
  • Hangout tool - in a small group. Beneficial for enhancing / increasing vocabulary for those able readers. Less able children could practice their reading and hear themselves talking. I can see this could be used as a very good incentive to promote on task behaviour.
  • Using BLOGs as a reading tool - could set up old computers for this.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
  • These tools I have learnt today will help free up time for family and self-indulgent activities. Google mail/calendar/Google Keep will be beneficial in planning. The knowledge of labels, settings etc will help make gmail easier and to get the full benefit of.
Extra Kelsey tip - Online Toolkit - has a number of hangout scenarios that can be viewed.

Create: Making meaning of content
Using Google Hangout to connect with a small group.

THINGS TO DO:

  • Revisit Agenda
  • Have a go of Group Hangout
  • GOOGLE KEEP - Practised sending Google Keep notes from phone to MY Drive but would not allow to view notes - said I needed certain APPS for it to work.  Need to research.

  • Resources, documents and planning potentially easier to find and to use later without endless searching or redoing.
  • Very easy to share to make it more collaborative between our Junior Syndicate.
  • The Scavenger Hunt activity was a good example of exploring google docs.
  • Looking through other peoples' blogs, google doc creations, learn create share examples with links was good to get different ideas.
